SUBANG JAYA: Team Mad.G came out as champions at the Hallyu Talent Competition held on 31 October after winning the crowd’s hearts with their intense K-pop inspired dance performance to the song of Danger and Dope by BTS.
“I was very happy and excited when we found out that we were the winners for this competition,” said leader of Mad.G Jackie Lim Chun Bin, 23, who further added that Mad.G is only one and a half months old since they were formed.
Lim said this is the first time the group emerged as champions in any competition as they only managed to reach second runner up and top five in other dance competitions.
“We have been practicing our dance routine for around two weeks and the routine used for this talent competition was initially for a national dance competition called Kstorm,” Lim said.
He added that joining Hallyu Talent Competition at Lakeside Campus was a last minute plan and they did not expect to win at all.
“I would like to thank all the Mad.G fans that have supported us from day one and we will continue to train harder,” Lim added.
Lim said there were many good competitors in the competition and Mad.G is always open to learning from the others.
Mad.G consists of members Jackie Lim Chun Bin, Wong Ting Yao, Ooi Jin Su, Kevan Kong Jun Qhuin, Ahmad Aliff Nazrin, Lim Kim Seng and How Choon Ming who aims to bring the K-pop culture to Malaysia.
School of Architecture student Lau Hao Shun, 22, who attended the talent competition said, “Mad.G deserved to win because I heard they were one of the most experienced dance crew to enter the competition and the storyline in the choreography was expressed well.”
Lau added that this year talent competition was more vibrant as it brought talents from all over Peninsula Malaysia and it was great to witness great unity in Taylor’s.
Public Relation Director for K-Generation club Lee Shin Wei, 21, said, “I’m satisfied with the winner for this year’s talent competition as the crowd was cheering for them when they performed and it definitely captured the audiences’ attention.”
