SUBANG JAYA: International Week that was held in Taylor’s University (TU) from 19 to 24 October managed to bring students together from various races and cultures.
The activities held during this event were language workshops, traditional food demonstrations and traditional dance performances that were prepared by students from various countries.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Perry Hobson said, “The idea of this event was to highlight and showcase the different cultures and nationalities at Taylor’s University as many people do not realise that we currently have around 2,000 students from over 80 countries in campus."
He stated that TU has students not only from China and Indonesia but also Kazahkstan, Zambia, Slovakia, Finland, Mauritius, Italy, Maldives, France, Pakistan, as well as Germany and the United Kingdom.
Professor Dr Perry also mentioned that local students will have a chance to experience and get more information about a short term exchange program overseas in this event.
"One of the best time in your life is to live overseas when you’re a student,” he explained.
School of Hospitality Harrison Marc Fernando, 22, said, “The most interesting experience were the Indonesian and Kazakh traditional dances.”
“It was entertaining and educational to experience different cultures,” he added.
School of Architecture student Ameerah Peerun, 21, said, “It’s an amazing experience to hold the flags for the opening ceremony and spend the whole night cooking Mauritian delicacy.”
“Although the last day of the event was cancelled due to the haze, I still had unforgettable moments from preparation to execution and getting the chance to mix with different students,” she added.
President of International Student Council, Hamza Aslam, 22, said, “Students should not only concentrate in the academics but must learn to take chances to explore and make new friends."
