SUBANG JAYA – In preparation for School of Communication (SOC) students ready for internship, six speakers from PHD Malaysia and Omnicom Media Group Malaysia were invited to Taylor’s University (TU) to share the current state of media and marketing.
Andreas Vogiatzakis, CEO of Omnicom Media Group Malaysia said, “Our goal here today is to provide useful information to all of you because when we were growing up and studying in university, we did not have resources that you have today.”
Andreas said that many people tend to perceive media as a mysterious place but in fact it can be a structured expression of creativity depending on different people.
“One of the most cherished thing that I love about people is that media means very different things to different people and you have to make your own definition in order to generate great ideas,” Andrea added.
Head of Planning of PHD Malaysia Nurazrina Baharum explained that media industry depends a lot on data researches that study the consumers as it provides insights.
“Insights are more than what we can see on report and they are fundamental consumers truth that can form the basics of an actionable strategy,” Nurazrina said.
General Manager of PHD Malaysia Jimmy Lim pointed out how media industry is always changing and it is important to acknowledge it.
“The current generation, Gen Y is more visually driven and traditional media might not have the resonance to the current generation though they are still the most prevalent media,” Jimmy said.
The workshops received engaging responses from SOC students who are about to undergo internship.
“I treasured everything said by the speakers today as they had been working in the media industry for a long time and they provided information and knowledge that I can not obtain in classes,” SOC student Tee Lian Cheng, 23, said.
