SUBANG JAYA: The Lakeside Cup which was part of Tech Fest 2015 that was organised by School of Computing and IT has raised RM1,000 for Vinashini Home Care in Seremban.
Director of The Lakeside Cup, Tan Tian Kang said, “The motive of this competition is contributing donation to charity because the community needs our help and this is part of our community service initiative project.”
Tan added, “Most of us have the dedication and knowledge to conduct a Dota 2 competition and that is why we chose this project compared to other projects such as visiting the orphanage.”
The Lakeside Cup is a Dota 2 charity competition that was held over four days which included online preliminaries stages from 25 October to 27 October and the finals which was held at The Grand Hall on 29 October.
Over 32 teams from HELP University, Brickfields Asia Colleges, SEGI University, INTI International University, Sunway University, Monash University and Taylor’s University had participated in The Lakeside Cup.
Tan said the donation will help Vinashini Home Care in buying daily materials, foods and toiletries for the children.
“Tech Armory sponsored RM500 for the donation and the rest of the money is coming from the registration fees of the participants,” Tan added.
One of the participants, School of Communication student Chan Chi Rap, 22, said, “As a devoted Dota gamer, I am very excited to participate in this Dota competition and it is very meaningful to know that it can be a form of contribution to charity.”
Team To Destiny which consisted of Tony Thian, Nelson Chong, Chuah Chieh, Fu Hao and Pang Sze Xuan emerged as the winner of The Lakeside Cup and took home RM500 cash prize.
The first runner-up, Team Evil Zombies and second runner-up, Team MPC were also rewarded with RM300 and RM200 cash prizes respectively.
