SUBANG JAYA: The 5th Engineering Undergraduate Research Catalyst Conference (EURECA) is going to take place from 2 to 3 December in Taylor's University (TU).
EURECA Organising Chairperson Dr Wong Wai Yin said the aim of this conference is to provide an opportunity to the undergraduates and postgraduates in the field of engineering, science and technology to experience a research environment.
Dr Wong added that the conference is open to all engineering undergraduates and postgraduates, employers searching for young talents, academic and policy makers, as well as engineers seeking continuing professional development.
He said that the participants would present their papers individually via oral presentation after their manuscript submission was reviewed and accepted by the scientific track committee.
Dr Wong said there are six awards for the undergraduate category, including the Best Industry Relevance Paper, Best Innovative Research Paper, Best Fundamental Research Paper, Best Environmental Impact Paper, Best Commercial Potential Paper and the Best High Impact Research Paper.
“Out of the six winners, one will be selected to receive the ‘Best Engineering Award Sponsored by University of Adelaide’ with a cash prize of 300 AUD (RM920),” Dr Wong added.
He added that there would only be one award for the postgraduate category which is the Best Technical Paper.
The winners will be chosen based on the quality of the manuscript and the student’s performance during the oral presentation.
“All delegates will receive a certificate of participation from the conference,” Dr Wong added.
Dr Wong expects all students’ work to be in high quality and possess equal uniqueness in the field of their research work.
Winner of the Best Commercial Potential Paper in the 4th EURECA Conference, School of Engineering (SOE) graduate Ameena Ali, 24, said, “This conference gives a platform and allows the undergraduates to experience and have an idea on what to expect in a professional conference outside the university premises.”
Winner of the Best Industry Relevance Paper in the 4th EURECA Conference, SOE graduate Muhammad Aiman Ismail, 24, said he has gained a lot of benefits from the conference especially in sharpening soft skills and presentation skills.
Muhammad Aiman advised the delegates, “Make good preparation, be confident on what you present and most importantly, have fun.”
“No one knows your project as well as you, so show them what you’ve done and be proud of it,” said winner of the Best Innovative Research Paper in the 4th EURECA Conference and SOE graduate Choong Pui Yung, 23.
