KUALA LUMPUR: School of Engineering student Kevin Chandra, 18, faced motion sickness when taking the LRT during KL Familiarisation Trip on 5 September.
“I started feeling sick when the train went underground from Masjid Jamek to KLCC station. I didn't realize that nausea kicks in when I can't see which direction I'm going,” Kevin said.
The trip was organized by Best Buddies Connect (BBC) Programme, an initiative under Taylor's University International Student Experience to assist the new international students to transit smoothly into the university and Malaysia in general.
Under this programme, a senior will be assigned to be the buddy of a new student for a month. The senior will provide arrival assistance, facilities and student organization introduction along with campus integration to the new students.
One of the highlights of the initiative is the KL Familiarisation Trip and the trip is held for every new intake.
it aimed to teach new international students how to take public transportation around KL.
“Luckily, I was attended immediately by the adviser and given some medicated oil to ease nausea. I hope that the organizer would prepare a mini first aid kit or inform all students with weak tolerance beforehand in the future,” Kevin said.
The Indonesian student added that he enjoyed the visit to the Central Market.
“I have interest in cultures so I really enjoyed browsing through handicrafts such as keris, batik and various sculpture.”
School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts student Shristi, 18, said, “My buddy Julia was really helpful. She taught me how to use the ticket machine.”
Shristi added that she was glad that BBC conducted this programme as it is easier to explore the city with a group than being on her own.
