SUBANG JAYA: School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (TCHT) student Chew Cha Xin, 21, won the only gold medal in Fish/Seafood Main Course (Western Cuisine) in Food & Hotel Malaysia (FHM) Culinaire Malaysia 2015. “I was surprised that I clinched a gold medal for my first participation in FHM,” Chew said. Chew’s award-winning dish was called ‘Sensational Flavoured Cod’. |
Chew said, “It was seared and baked cod topping with mix herbs and spices, potato chowder and sauté vegetables.”
“The main elements that enhanced the dish were the flavours added to my cod topping and potato chowders,” he added.
Chew said the challenging part was that each participant in the Fish/Seafood category was only given an hour to create their dish.
Deputy Dean of School of Culinary Arts Siti Ramadhaniatun Ismail, 19, said, “Taylor’s University (TU) students from TCHT participated in various types of categories.”
TU has ended the four-day competition with nine diplomas and nine medals – four golds, four silvers and one bronze.
Besides Chew, the other three gold medallists were Fatema Fairoz, 21, Sim Jin Ling, 20, and Stephanie Foong Se Wan, 23.
Arshad Zamir, 23, Chuah Jian Yeh, 22, Soew Zhong Kheng, 21 and Muhammad Adeeb Palil, 21, who participated in the Malaysian Junior Tiger Cup category, were recognised as the top team in our country.
“I am very proud of their achievements and I hope they can perform better in FHM 2017,” Siti Ramadhaniatun said.
Organised by Malaysian Exhibition Services Sdn Bhd, which also known as FHM 2015, the largest and most sought after biennial food, beverage and hotel exhibition, was held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
There were over 1,500 entries and a congregation of more than 1,000 culinary experts.
