SUBANG JAYA: Taylor’s University (TU) Counselling and Psychological Services Centre (CPSC) counsellor Evan Kok Choon Foong will continue to spread the awareness of peer support sessions among Taylor’s students. Kok said even though these sessions have been going on for three years now, there is always a need to promote so that the programme can expand further. “Students may have already heard and seen the sessions but they may not be aware of what it’s about,” he added. Kok said not everyone will be aware of the activities that are held in the programme due to the intake of new students during each semester. |
Kok said, “The largest number of students gathered in a session was about 15 to 20 students whereas the smallest number was around two to three students.”
Taylor’s Business School student Tan Mei Yen, 21, said, “The students who joined the sessions have been very responsive.”
“They attended the meeting on a weekly basis and even participated actively in all of the events organised by CPSC,” Tan said.
As a student who has been in Taylor’s Peer Support and Counselling group for almost 3 years, she said, “I think the reason why they kept coming back to the sessions is the group itself and the people in it.”
Tan said they are given a sense of purpose in life through peer support and with that, the strength and courage to embark on a road to recovery.
About more than 100 members have signed up for the sessions.
Members will be informed by CPSC of any upcoming events or peer support training.
The activities held in the peer support programme include presentations on a different topic every week, special friend assignments and annual campaigns.
The peer support sessions are held on every Friday at 3pm to 5pm.
