I believe that almost everyone has always dreamt of being qualified as a top student, but truth be told, becoming a top student is not an easy task. In order to score with flying colors, efforts must be made. In fact, studying just for the sake of getting a degree would not get you anywhere. It is studying smart that would bring you to the top.
“I have always been a top student and I do not have any problem coping with my studies,” said Public Relations major Chai Wan Kei, 21. “As long as you know how to study smart, nothing could stop you from being at the top.”
Hence, memorizing is no longer the solution. Well, why study hard when there is an easier way to do it? Therefore, listed below are the smarter and more creative ways to study.
1. Having a Good Sleep
Always keep this in mind: Never study without having a good rest. Most people tend to memorize everything in one night, right before the exams. However, studying non-stop for hours would drain your energy and your mind would stop working immediately.
You could not absorb all the information in such a short period of time, as your brain needs to “breathe” and it needs to take some time off. Besides, students are also encouraged to have a 5-10 minutes break in between because it helps the blood flow so that you could be more focused.
Thus, having a good sleep or rest is absolutely the most important thing to do in order to score.
2. Having a Relaxed Mind
First of all, take a deep breath. Then, try to clear your mind before you start your revisions. You could not possibly gain a full memory of everything you studied, if you are in a troubled mind.
You could try scribbling on a piece of paper, listening to music, or do anything that would get you to relax your mind. Therefore, studying with a free and relaxed mind is also very important, as it is the key to becoming a top student.
3. Choosing The Right Place
One of the important aspects of studying smart is choosing a right place to study. Having a clean and comfortable environment could help to brighten up your mood, hence, it motivates you to concentrate on your revisions.
Nevertheless, it is equally important not to find an over-comfortable location, as it would make you fall asleep before you even start studying. Everyone has different preferences, so it is entirely up to you to choose the right place for yourself.
Some would prefer a place filled with music but others would prefer a quiet place. Therefore, choose the right spot to study according to your own needs, as long as it is comfortable.
4. Eating or Snacking
Hunger has always been one of the causes to a disturbed mind; hence, preparing some food or snacks before you start your revisions is another important aspect of smart studying.
However, choosing the right food or snacks is also important. For example, you could try eating some eggs, as they are undeniably healthy and good for the brain. Apart from the food, coffee is also recommended for those who wish to feel more awake.
So, prepare some food or snacks before your study session so that you could just grab something and eat when you feel hungry.
5. Turn Off Your Phone
This is a difficult task but trust me, getting all those notifications while studying is extremely irritating as the “beeping” sound coming from your phone would easily distract your mind.
Not only that, turning off your phone could stop you from having that urge of using your phone, hence, staying focused is no longer a problem. Thus, it is important to have your phone turned off before you start your revisions.
The tips above are just a few suggestions for you to study smart and in order for you to score your exams. Since there are guidelines for you to study smart and efficient, why not give it a try? Always be positive, put in more effort but remember not to force yourself to do it. The success will only come when you learn the true meaning of “smart studying”.
