Worried about injuring yourself while lifting heavy weights at the gym? No weights, no problem, because Calisthenics is the solution.
Calisthenics is commonly known as body weight training with no added weights where one can achieve his dream body and also maintain a very high level of fitness.
Calisthenics consists of various workouts such as push-ups, chest dips, chin-ups and crunches. Calisthenics workouts can be performed anywhere, not necessarily at a gym or a park, provided there is a bar to hang from to perform chin-ups and chest dips and a few others bar workouts.
Now, everyone is appearing to be bitten by the gym bug and everyone seems to look very bulky. The term used to describe them is beefcake. So, if one does not want to appear to be like beefcake, but rather achieve that model-like lean figure, then calisthenics is the way to go.
School of Communication student Ezra Carvalho Soon, 23, who is actively involved in calisthenics workout, said, “All you need is some space and a bar to hang from. You have to use your own body weight to gain strength and fitness.”
Ezra added that calisthenics does not need subscription fees or expensive protein shakes, all it needs is discipline and determination.
“Give yourself a year’s time and you will master the bars like a professional gymnast, only much stronger,” Ezra said.
Certified Gym Instructor Teh Kar Kin, 23, shared his thoughts on calisthenics, “I believe that calisthenics is a less injury prone workout and I would also suggest that one mixes gym session with calisthenics as well in order to get the best of both worlds.”
“But at the end of the day, it is your body, hence, it is your decision. My job is to motivate, not demotivate,” Teh added.
Calisthenics, if you can carry your own body weight, then go for it. You do not have to constrict yourself to a room full of sweaty people, instead, you can go to the park, do it by the beach, or even in the comfort of your own house.
Your body, your decision.
