It is no surprise that not all of us are Mr. and Ms. Goody Two-Shoes when it comes to purposely making the effort to attend classes in campus. We all have that lazy bone inside of us whom will not hesitate to sit back and relax while giving off excuses after excuses to convince ourselves that it is okay to avoid going to university.
Hence, listed below are the excuses most commonly given by TU students for not coming to campus. Not only that, I had also countered all the excuses with ways to overcome all of TU students ‘problems’.
1. I'm late for my class! But nah I'll skip it because by the time I get there the class will be over anyway.
Prepare ahead of time and set your alarm clock way earlier prior to the time taken to get you all set and ready for class! Don’t be a lazy bum and use that as an excuse to skip class! Besides, we all know that even though you’re late for class, it’s still not too late to attend the last few minutes just for the sake of the attendance marks.
2.The lecture halls are overloaded as there are too many students and thus there will be no place for me to sit anyway.
Come earlier to class and bag the seats in the front row. If you aren’t a fan of the front seats, you can always ‘book’ your desired seat by claiming it first and foremost. After all, the early bird always catches the worm. Another option will be to change the class that you were assigned to another time where there won’t be too many jams and long queues.
3.This subject is a theoretical subject and I can't seem to understand so I shall just not attend.
Pitch in more effort to at least attempt to understand whatever subject you seem to have a biased opinion on. If eventually you still cannot manage to get yourself to do all that, maybe you just need to grow up and turn over a new leaf to realize that making up unreasonable excuses are just, well, excuses.
4. The free parking is always full. And Taylor's parking space is too costly for me to afford.
Carpool, hitch rides on TU public transports (all you need is just RM1.60 for a ticket), or give students walking back to their cars a lift. That way, you can park your car at their spot and in return, they will not hesitate to give you a lift back to campus as a show of gratitude. Now unless your class is at 8am or 10am, we will be nice and cut you a little slack by not nagging at you to come BEFORE 8am as we all know parking after that time will be a pain in the rear. If not, well, you know very well what you should do.
5. The restaurants in Taylor's are too expensive for me to afford and there are no other cheaper restaurants around.
All right we understand. The restaurants offered in campus are priced way over the top for normal university students like us. Going out of campus to have lunch will also take up a monstrous amount of time seeing as how we need to tackle two very long traffic lights before reaching Sunway Pyramid. Hence, the option you can go for is to pack your own meal before heading to campus. This way, you’re not only eating healthier, but you’re also saving money rather than just spending.
6. This lecturer is too boring for me to handle.
Do something that motivates you to pay attention or at the very least stay awake in class. Taking notes during lecture can also be a very effective way to avoid falling asleep, and also it’ll be much more easier to refresh your memory when the time comes for you to cram those chapters into your brain!
7. This is just an MPU subject. It doesn't affect my CGPA and therefore, it is okay for me to skip this.
It is absolutely not okay for you to skip this! Yes sure subjects like Moral Education or Malaysian Studies can get a tad boring but take it as a course for you to relax and get away from all the other stressful subjects. After all, the MPU subjects are still included in your tuition fees, and you do not want to waste your parents’ money, do you?
8. I do not belong in the same frequency as my course mates. We don't click together.
All we need to do is work on a little social and self esteem skills to make a really good impression, that’s all! Getting to know people takes time and effort. As long as you remain optimistic, cheerful and kind to your course mates, you will be Mr. or Mrs. Popular in no time!
9. Oh look I have a class during rush hour time! It'll be very jam and I won't make it in time anyway.
Psst! Little tip. Always make sure that you leave your place AN HOUR EARLIER when you have a class during rush hour time. If you still do not want to make that effort, there is always the possibility of switching the same class with one of your classmates at a different time but we all know nobody wants to go to a class during rush hour jam. Sorry buddy.
10. I have an important assignment to finish by today and thus I have no time to go for my class in the morning!
Now that is just the king of all excuses, isn’t it? Honey, you aren’t even supposed to be finishing your assignment today if it is due, well, today! It should be done at least a day before the due date so that you will able to crosscheck and correct your assignment if need be. Get rid of that procrastinator inside of you and all your last minute stress and worry will be washed away in no time
11. University life is so not what I imagined it to be.
We get it. The fantasies being shown in Hollywood movies about how cool university life supposedly is can be a harsh slap in the face when faced with reality. You can soften the blow by getting yourself more involved with the extra curricular activities provided by TU. That way, you can make new friends and maybe ease into university life more comfortably.
